Here to support you. Our Kaiārahi/Navigators understand the unique challenges whānau face. With strong cultural and local knowledge, they work alongside you to build trust, confidence, and a plan to achieve your aspirations.

WHAKAPUUKAHA KAUMāTUA

Our Kaumātua Programme is a welcoming space where kuia and koroua can come together, whakawhanaunga and stay engaged in a mentally and physically stimulating environment.

Held weekly:

Huntly – Tuesdays

Ngāruawāhia – Wednesdays

Kaumātua can enjoy:

  • Whakawhanaungatanga (building connections)
  • Hands-on activities & low-impact exercises
  • Planned haerenga and social events

Additional Support Services:

  • Advocacy for housing, Work and Income, social services & grants
  • Free pickup & drop-off service
  • Personal healthcare plan consultation
  • Health promotion & education
  • Morning tea & lunch provided

MATE HUKA

The Mate Huka programme is a 12-week initiative designed to support whānau in preventing and managing diabetes. Whether you have pre-diabetes or are at risk of developing diabetes, we’re here to help you make lifestyle changes that improve your health and wellbeing.

Through face-to-face sessions, we offer:

  • Group exercise sessions led by personal trainer
  • Nutrition education
  • One-on-one mentoring
  • Access to our Facebook group – Ongoing support and encouragement
  • Regular diabetes screenings & advice – Provided by Ngā Miro Health nurses

These programmes run throughout the year and is usually promoted through facebook. Contact us for more information.

MAURI ORA

Chronic Disease Management & Whānau Support

The Mauri Ora programme provides long-term support for whānau living with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and high blood pressure. Our focus is to provide support for you and your whanau to better manage your health and wellbeing.

  • Blood pressure checks
  • Immunisations on site and in home
  • Health education
  • B4 school checks
  • Hep-C testing
  • Cervical screening – self swabbing
  • Pregnancy tests and condoms
  • Gout screening
  • Bowel screening support
  • Advice from Registered Nurses
  • Rheumatic fever swabbing
  • Kia piki te ora (Mental Health resources)

HEALTH PROMOTION

At Ngā Miro Health, our Health Promotion service is dedicated to empowering whānau with the knowledge and tools to take control of their well-being. We deliver a range of initiatives designed to support healthier lifestyles, prevent illness, and strengthen our communities.

Our services include:

Health Education Workshops – Covering key topics such as nutrition, physical activity, diabetes prevention, mental well-being, and more. These workshops provide practical strategies tailored to whānau needs.

Community Health Promotion – Working alongside whānau, hapū, and iwi to promote healthier lifestyles through events, resources, and kaupapa Māori-based initiatives.

Rangatahi Programme – Supporting our young people to develop lifelong healthy habits through engaging activities, workshops, and leadership opportunities.

Through a kaupapa Māori approach, we ensure our programmes are culturally grounded, whānau-centered, and driven by the aspirations of our people.
